Enroute to Haiti. Continuing the Quest.

It’s early Thursday morning and I am awaiting my flight from Tampa to Miami en-route to Haiti.

Since I will be on the go from the moment I deplane in Port au Prince, I thought it wise to check-in before fully engaging in the tasks that await me.

Over the course of the next 7-days, I will travel throughout the country continuing my quest to provide “dignity for the dead and hope and opportunity for the living.”

Though I’ll be in meetings from dawn until well into the night, I will do my best to provide daily recaps and to draw upon the strength that each of you send my way.

That’s all for now. It’s time to take a deep breath and to be on my way.

Until tomorrow…

Hi Jim, Just returned from another trip to Three Angels yesterday. I see we were in Haiti again at the same time. I was happy to see a lot of changes since our last trip. I noticed more paved roads and new homes being constructed in the area. I drove through a new neighborhood unintended and was escorted out by the nice U.N. police. Yes, I was lost! Driving there is better than any video game I have ever played! People ask if I think we can make a difference there, and I say “Yes, one life at a time”. The team we work with are amazing people. I just finished reading for the second time a book by Ted Boer. He has extensive experience working in Haiti. I would highly recommend you read his book , “Demons Of Poverty”. It will give you great insight into the history and culture of the people there. On a lighter note, if you get hungry for pizza, Pizza Amore by the U.S. Embassy is pretty good! Eric and Jennifer do a good job on the pizza. Only open Friday and Saturday night. Not as good as Vinces or Alfanos, but close.

    Greetings Xavier,

It’a great to hear from you and I hope all is well on your end.

Though I am not entirely sure when your trip occurred, (our website is being updated and your note was forwarded to my attention during this conversion), I was heartened to see that you are still connected to Haiti physically and spiritually. You and Haiti are a good match as both of you are resilient and inspirational.

With regard to the book you referenced, I have spoken to the author, Ted Boer, on several occasions and, like you, consider his experiences and insights to be valuable for anyone connected to Haiti.

Next, thank you for the heads-up regarding Pizza Amore. I will be sure to “swing by for a pie” during my next trip.

That’s it for now. Thanks, again, for the note and be well.
