A Life Lived with Purpose…and Its Toll

In a few minutes, I will force my battered body from the bed that now cradles me and begin another day. (A day that begins in Haiti and ends with me back in the States.).

Before I do so, here are a few thoughts and/or observations from my trip.

Over the last 7 days, I have honorably continued my quest to provide dignity for the dead and hope and opportunity for the living. I have met with all walks of life, in every conceivable setting, and with each encounter I stayed true to myself and to my mission. I listen when need be, spoke when necessary and, like previous trips, cried when I could no longer endure the pain and suffering of those around me.

And though those who love me the most are unhappy with the toll this journey has taken on me, I say a life well lived is better than a life long lived without purpose.

That’s all for now. It’s time to clean myself up and to get back at it.

Jim, I felt a great emotion on Saturday as I left Haiti. I thought this might be my last trip down for a while but I quickly realized that my heart and passion to help the people of Haiti was only strengthened on this trip. Our operations manager Eric Helgemo is an amazing man. He has committed another three years in Haiti. He sold all his property in California and just bought a house in Petionville. I will be praying for you to have wisdom, favor and guidance as you continue your journey in making a difference for the people of Haiti.
