Divine Intervention Yields An Opportunity to Thank Those Who Handled The Dead Following Haiti’s 2010 Earthquake
Three years ago today close to 300,000 Haitians lost their lives in less than a minute.
If death wasn’t a cruel enough fate for the fallen, most found their way into the back of dump trucks and were unceremoniously buried in mass graves in a place called Titanyen. Only Dante could embrace such an outcome.
To observe this hallowed anniversary, earlier today I traveled to the fields of Titanyen to pay my respects and to continue speaking out on behalf of those interned. While my efforts have now placed me within the office of the President, I am most proud of one development that has taken me years to achieve.
As the record shows, for days on end, human beings maneuvered their trucks through the shattered streets of Haiti to the burial pits of Titanyen. They did what was needed to be done and their souls paid a price that can never be satisfied.
Today, in a moment of divine intervention, I spoke with the Director of the company who dispatched the funeral trucks.
After thanking him for doing what needed to be done, I requested permission to speak directly to the hundred plus drivers who handled the bodies. I said that no person should ever have to do what they did, and I wanted to thank them personally for their sacrifice. Through tears, we exchanged phone numbers, and in February, I will begin this process.
The journey continues, and that’s all I have to say for today. — at Titanyen, Haiti.
