HR&DC CEO Jim Lange Tours New Cereal Company in Croix des Bouquets
Haiti Trip (March); Day Three:
As I sit here typing this post through crossed and blurry eyes, I find it hard to believe that I can be this tired after only three days here in Haiti.
As for today’s activities, I spent the morning and early afternoon in Croix des Bouquets touring a new, state-of-the-art, cereal company.
This manufacturing facility is a model for what Haitian industry could become and is worthy of praise and emulation. Unfortunately, this facility now finds itself precariously located on the edge of the burgeoning slums 1
Only time will tell if this Jim wonders out loug id its nightmarish surroundings.
In the late afternoon, I retired to my little bedroom sanctuary where I allowed myself some quiet-time to reflect and to heal. Without question, this respite was time well spent and, if the truth be told, I am already looking forward to my next retreat.
As for this evening, I am preparing to depart for a meeting with the patriarch of a Haitian family whose land holdings (allegedly) include mass grave sites in Titanyen.
While our conversation is purposely informal, my objective is to update him regarding the progress of the memorial and peace park initiative and to persuade him to donate his family’s land for the greater good. Though I do not expect a concrete agreement to emerge from our chat, I am, nonetheless, encouraged by scope, tenor and direction of our dialogue.
That’s it for now. It’s time to put on my dusty shoes and get back to work.
