Positive Progress in Corail

Haiti Trip; Day Two: It is twilight in Haiti and I am alone in my room. Outside my window the sounds of life rise and fall to meet my ears, and I find myself genuinely comforted by the embrace of my unseen friends.

As for todays activities, the morning was spent meeting with the key stakeholder of the Corail resettlement camp and, if the truth be told, every inch of progress that was made towards the transition of the camp was difficult and hard-earned. In any event, all involved considered the meeting to be a success and each pointed to the need to create “next steps.” A good sign, to say the least.

In the afternoon, I had the pleasure of meeting with a seasoned, Haitian geologist who understands the resource potential of Haiti. In short, the goal of our conversation was to discuss the viability of short, medium and long-term mining projects throughout Haiti. While it is much to early to make any predictions about this meeting, I must say that I am encouraged by the trajectory of our conversation and the prospect of creating good jobs for rural Haitians.

That’s it for today. Goodnight and take care.
